Join Real With Rhia THIS Thursday as we cover the last & final Trail of The SEAL3 with Matthew McCabes Verdict. In Addition, my guests will be Retired U.S. Navy Captain Larry W. Bailey & veteran of the U.S. Air Force Chris Carter. We will be dicussing ROE (Rules of Engagement) and how they hurting or helping our military! CAPT Larry Bailey draws on his 27 years as a Navy SEAL and his keen writing skills to bring to the public's eye the phenomenon known as the "phony, wannabe, SEAL imitator". A frequent contributor to SOLDIER OF FORTUNE Magazine, Capt. Bailey also writes of other SEAL related issues. Captain Bailey’s most noteworthy assignment was as Commanding Officer of Naval Special Warfare Center in Coronado, CA, where Navy SEALs undergo basic and advanced training. Bailey has an abiding interest in the Civil War and is a member of the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond, VA. Three of his great-grandfathers fought for the Confederacy. "Bailey wears the Bronze Star with Combat “V,” the Legion of Merit, two Meritorious Service Medals, and numerous other decorations and awards. His wife, Judy, teaches at Chocowinity Middle School. They are the parents of two adult children, Tucker and Hallie. Bailey is a resident of Cypress Landing."—North Carolina Conservative, March 20, 2006 Chris Carter, Director for The Victory Institute and associated Editor for The US Report.Chris Carter hosts the talk-radio program Unto the Breach which covers issues affecting American liberty and security. Little Lessons on Love and Life

Little Lessons on Love and Life, by Rhiannon Waits
By Annabel Zoran

Dec 6, 2007 - 10:56:21 PM

There are many self help books on the market, some more useful than others. Whilst this particular book does not preach, seeing beyond the way in which it is written (i.e. in American rather than English) is an advantage. After all, life’s lessons are internal not geographical.

Little Lessons on Love and Life contains advice on how to deal with some of the issues that life presents to us. Each chapter is dedicated to a different subject and the chapter’s title reflects the issue.‘Unfaithful love’, ‘Do not mistake my kindness for weakness’ and ‘I asked for your opinion; I did not give you rights to insult me’, are some of the issues covered. Waits calls these ‘life lessons’, but in fairness a more fitting description would be, how to deal with the attitudes of others.

A detailed account is given of how each lesson was presented to Waits. Choosing to use action rather than reaction enabled her to move on through the experience with an increased understanding. I liked the way in which each chapter closed with quotes by various ‘thinkers’ which added further understanding. For instance, ‘Do not mistake my kindness for weakness’, ends with one of Khalil Gibran’s gems, ‘Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair, but manifestations of strength and resolutions’. The extracts are taken from www.quotationspage.com, which is a great source for famous quotes and well worth a visit.

Little lessons on Love and Life reminds us that personal boundaries are necessary for healthy living. Whilst some boundaries can never be crossed, there are others which are flexible. Waits illustrates this idea in the chapter, ‘The parent who keeps on giving’. Allowing our children to crash through certain boundaries can be a useful tool. Sometimes they need to learn for themselves what is, and what is not, acceptable behaviour.

Rhiannon Waits is described (mostly by fans) as a ‘true psychic’. The information and advice about life, which Waits imparts, could easily come from a wise grandmother. It is possible that since the ‘extended family’ no longer exists in family life; that authors like Waits fill the gap. As grateful as we are for the knowledge, it is not psychic knowledge.

Little Lessons on Love and Life does offer encouragement and support; it reminds us that we are not alone in our struggle. Waits admits that she has received criticism over her style of writing, her response is that ‘whenever people become too fastidious over how a sentence is presented, they loose sight of the true meaning of the sentence, they have denied themselves education in a different area’. This response has truth, as Waits herself would admit, she would like to be remembered as a woman who tried to help everyone find the goodness and beauty inside of themselves. You cannot argue with that.
